Anyone aged 18 or above who wants to be tested for the COVID-19 virus, regardless of whether they have symptoms, can obtain a test from ResourcePath. In the United States there is a significant need for increased SARS-CoV-2 testing availability for both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals. If you would like to be tested but do not have a physician, or you do not meet illness requirements for your physician, the Commonwealth of Virginia allows patients to order their own laboratory tests for Coronavirus.  We can test individual’s younger than 18 with parental permission.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of test do you offer?

    1- Viral RNA test

The test uses RT-PCR and detects an active infection of SARS-CoV-2, a novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. This test is performed in our high complexity, CLIA-licensed, College of American Pathologists accredited laboratory in Sterling, VA by trained professionals.

This test can detect whether you currently have virus in your body. A negative result cannot tell you whether or not you have been exposed, have immunity, or will or will not become positive in the future.

The typical incubation period for Coronavirus is 2-14 days. Therefore, we suggest that if you have had known or suspected exposure to someone that is infected, that you wait two days from the date of exposure to get tested.

    2- Antibody test

An antibody test indicates an immune response to SARS-CoV-2 in patients suspected of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection, or for the detection of seroconversion in patients following known recent SARS-CoV-2 infection. Antibodies that help fight off infections and can provide protection against getting that disease again can take 1 to 3 weeks to develop after you have an infection and may stay in your blood for several months after that.

We employ SARS-CoV-2 Total Antibody ELISA Kit. This enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay against S-RBD, which is highly related to neutralizing antibody, and intend for qualitative detection of total antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 virus in human serum or plasma specimens.  It can be used to determine if an individual has been infected with SARS-CoV-2 and may indicate some protective immunity (have not yet been proven). Our validation here demonstrated it has a sensitivity of 93.0% (106/114) and a specificity of 95.6% (86/90).

A positive test result shows you may have antibodies from an infection with SARS-COV-2. Having antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 may provide protection from getting infected with the virus again. But we do not know how much protection the antibodies may provide or how long this protection may last. So you should continue to protect yourself and others even when your antibodies test is positive.

You may test positive for antibodies even if you have never had symptoms of COVID-19. This can happen if you had an infection without symptoms, which is called an asymptomatic infection.

How can I order a test for myself?

We are partnering with McLean Pharmacy to offer SARS-CoV-2 viral testing using a non-contact process at the pharmacy.  McLean Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.  to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  They are located at 1392 Chain Bridge Road, Mclean, VA 22101.   Please call ahead to make an appointment. Phone: 571-488-6030 · Fax: 571-488-6035.  Testing can be performed on saliva or nasal swab. Results are available in 3-5 days.

Do I need a doctor’s order to schedule a test?

No, you do not need a doctor’s order to schedule or receive this test.

    How is the test administered?

This is a “park and test”, self-administered test. We provide detailed instructions upon your arrival to your appointment. A pharmacy technician will bring a test kit out to your car. Please, be sure to wear a mask when receiving your test kit from the technician.

What kind of specimen would I need to collect?

We offer either a mid-nasal swab or a saliva-based test. Please, let the pharmacy know when scheduling your appointment what you would prefer.

    Do you accept insurance?

If you are seeking a test because you have symptoms or a potential exposure to someone with COVID-19, we accept Medicare, VA Medicaid, and all major private insurances with no co-pays at the Pharmacy.

How much does the test cost?

If you need a test for travel, attendance at an event, school, back to work or other screening, the cost of testing is $125 (Viral RNA test) and $150 (Antibody test) due at the time of service. You may request a receipt to submit to your insurance for reimbursement at a later time.

How soon can I get the results?

Our current turnaround time is typically 3-5 business days from the receipt of the sample. If positive, you will be notified within 48 hours, by phone, of your results.

While we strive to turn around results as quickly as possible, we cannot guarantee that your results will be ready in 3-5 days. We are required to prioritize testing and reporting for high risk individuals and groups at this time.

How will I get my results?

If your results are positive, you will be notified by phone and a report will be emailed to you via a secure link.

If you are negative, you will be notified of your results 3-5 days from when you submitted a specimen. The report of your results will be emailed to you, via a secure link, a few days after you results become available.

Please, make sure to indicate your email address when scheduling the test. If you need a written report sooner, please check with McLean Pharmacy in person, for a printed copy of your results.

What if I need to get my test results sooner than 3 days? Would that be possible?

In order to accommodate those who need their results within 24 or 48 hours, we are able to provide testing at our Sterling location between the hours of 8:30 and 10:30 AM. This option is by appointment only, for Viral RNA test only and is at an additional cost. Please email the lab at info@resourcepath.net to schedule an appointment.

    • $175 for 48-hour
    • $275 for 24-hour results turn around.

Could my kids (younger than 18 years of age) get tested?

Yes. The test is appropriate for any age group. Please, check with your child’s pediatrician if your child is younger than 12 months old, before scheduling the test. For children who are not able to collect enough saliva, we require a nasal swab specimen.
